How we got started

Celebrating Two Years Cancer-Free: A New Beginning

In 2022, I reached a significant milestone—two years free from cancer. Yes, you read that correctly, cancer. Back in 2020, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. When I share this, the usual responses I get range from "I'm sorry" to "Oh man, are you okay?" I rarely talk about my cancer experience, not because it's a secret, but because it turned out to be one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Like many, I was on autopilot, doing what I thought was necessary to support my family. I was committed to a path that, without my diagnosis, I would likely still be following. This realization is precisely what led me to start Coach’s Mind Basketball Academy. It was my opportunity to make a difference in the world as I had always envisioned, through the sport I love.

Going through something as life-altering as cancer shifts your perspective on what truly matters. For a long time, I believed my role was to provide financially. I was fortunate to have a well-paying job, but it came with high stress, long nights, and time away from my wife and kids. I often had to request time off, only to be denied. The constant pressure to stay glued to my laptop for emails became a norm—but should it be?

My battle with cancer made me realize I was just a number at work. If something happened to me, I would be quickly replaced. However, my family couldn't just replace me. This stark realization sparked a transformation.

Why I Created Coach’s Mind Basketball Academy

I founded Coach’s Mind Basketball Academy to connect, serve, inspire, and provoke thought. I promised myself that with this second chance, I would touch more lives than ever before through basketball. Understanding how fleeting life can be, I took a leap of faith and established my academy.

This academy is more than just about basketball; it's about understanding the value of every minute and living a life full of purpose and passion.
